A trip to Pergamon, Ephesus and İzmir organized by the History and Archaeology Club took place over 26-29 October under the guidance of Prof. Suraiya Faroqhi. Attending were 22 undergraduate and graduate students from various departments, who visited the acropolis, the Temple of Trajan and Hadrian’s Red Basilica in Pergamon, while highlights of their walk through the Hellenistic and Roman city of Ephesus were the Marble Road, the Terrace Houses (a complex of luxury residential villas), Celsus Library, the amphitheatre, and the Archaeological Museum. On the nearby Ayasuluk Hill, they also saw the İsa Bey Mosque (built in 1375) and the (Seljuk-Ottoman) Ayasuluk Citadel. On the way back, they stopped in İzmir to admire the 16th – 19th century Anatolian carpet collections of the new Arkas Sanat Bornova museum.
