NOTES
1) To graduate from the History Undergraduate Program, students are required to complete 48 courses, corresponding to a total of 144 credits and 240 ECTS. These courses consist of 12 University Core Courses, 5 Non-Departmental Elective Courses, 18 History major courses, 4 Arabic language courses, up to 4 Turkish or other language courses, and—depending on the status of Turkish language courses—at least 5 General Elective Courses.
2) In accordance with the Senate decision dated 16 June 2017 regarding trilingual education, graduation from all undergraduate programs at our University requires students to demonstrate at least B2-level proficiency in Turkish, English, and Arabic.
a) The curriculum has been structured to enable students to meet these requirements. Enrollment in language courses appropriate to students’ proficiency levels is determined through placement examinations administered by the School of Languages.
b) International students who have Turkish language proficiency may fulfill their ECTS requirements by taking General Elective Courses in place of the courses coded TUR 301, TUR 302, TUR 303, and TUR 304. International students who possess B2-level Turkish proficiency are required to take at least two Turkish language courses appropriate to their level in place of TLL 101 and TLL 102.
c) For students who are granted exemption from courses coded ARA, the exempted courses are recorded as credit-bearing and ECTS-bearing courses and are indicated with the grade “E.”
3) All courses included in Ibn Haldun University undergraduate curricula, including language courses, may be taken as General Elective Courses. Courses offered by the History Department may also be taken as General Electives.
4) Within the Departmental Elective course group, at least three courses must be selected from those coded HIST 200, and at least three courses must be selected from those coded HART, LIT, or HUM.
5) Within the Non-Departmental Elective course group, students may take courses from the following departments, provided that they are selected from at least two different departments: Sociology, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations, Economics, Law, Psychology, and Comparative Literature. Once five Non-Departmental Elective Courses have been completed, additional courses taken from these departments are counted as General Elective Courses.
6) Students who have previously passed HIST 201 – Introduction to Historical Thought and Method are exempt from HIST 201A and HIST 201B. In order to complete the 18 required departmental courses for graduation, these students must take one additional Departmental Elective Course.
