Ahd Yaseen Altamimi

Ahd is an international student from Yemen. She graduated from the United World College of the Adriatic (UWCAD) with an International Baccalaureate degree (IB) in Trieste, Italy. Her Bachelor’s degree is obtained in Financial Economics & Business Administration at Methodist University, NC, United States. She participated in student conferences discussing political and environmental issues in both Italy and the United Nations headquarters in New York. She speaks Arabic, English, and Italian. She is currently an MA student in the Turkish Studies Program. Her areas of interests include History of Economics, World Arts and Cultures, Turkish Language, Sociology, and Political Science.

Ayşegül Adanır

Ayşegül Adanır graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Theology in 2018 with an honors degree. She is pursuing her master’s degree in Turkish Studies Master’s program at Ibn Haldun University. Her main interests are Islamic theology, modern Islamic thought, and political theology. Her current interests include the relation of religion with nationalism and Muslim nationalism among Turkish intellectuals in early republican era in Turkey.

Bilal Kaya

Bilal has graduated from the history department at Istanbul 29 Mayis University. His undergraduate thesis is about the Life of Mehmet Nahifî Efendi and His Records of Foscani Parley in 1772. He has been enrolled as an MA student in the Turkish Studies program at Ibn Haldun University. The topic of his master thesis is about the reflections of religious policies of the CUP and its perception of religion on the contemporary literature between 1912-1914. He speaks English fluently and knows Ottoman Turkish.

Bukurije Guni

Bukurije Guni is a PhD student in the Department of History at Ibn Haldun University, Istanbul, Turkey. She pursued her master studies at the Medieval Studies Department at Central European University, Budapest, Hungary. She also holds a Professional Master’s degree in Law from the University of Tirana, Albania and LLM Master’s degree in European Business Law from Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in the Faculty of Law, University of Tirana, Albania. She speaks Albanian, English, Italian, French, Spanish, and Turkish. Her fields of interest are Legal and Political History.

Diego Castellanos

Diego Giovanni Castellanos received his Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from National University of Colombia.  He graduated from Master of Arts in Religious Studies program at Florida International University. He is currently an MA student in Turkish Studies Program at Ibn Haldun University. His areas of scholarly interest include Ottoman cartographies and cosmographies; Muslim minorities in Latin America; Anthropology of religion and Religious conversion, Ottoman cultural exchanges and Mediterranean connections in early modernity.

Mohammad Hossain

Mohammad Hossain recently completed his MA in Civilization Studies from the Alliance of Civilizations Institute at Ibn Haldun University. His thesis was entitled “Ecology, epidemics and the colonial state: environmental change and health in eastern Bengal Delta, 1858-1947.” Currently he is a PhD student at the Department of History, Ibn Haldun University. His areas of interest include Environmental history and Ottoman-Indian relations.

Nilab Saeedi

Nilab Saeedi was born as a refugee on May 1996. She started Bachelors with thesis in Foreign Languages Faculty and graduated in 2016 with a thesis on History of Story Writing in Afghanistan between 1919 to 2012. Then she received the Turkish Government Scholarship for Master Studies on Turkish Language and Literature with major in Ottoman Manuscript Studies from Ondokuz Mayis University where she graduated in July 2019, with a thesis titled “The divan of Dilsûz in the Iran National Library (Text-review).” On September 2019, she received a Merit Scholarship from Ibn Haldun University to pursue with her PhD education in History. She has been writing poetries and these poetries have been published in Afghanistan. She speaks Uzbek, Persian, Pashto, English, Turkish, Arabic, Urdu, and Hindi. Her areas of interests include Ottoman Political Literature, Ottoman Language Studies, Early Ottoman Period, Linguistics, and Manuscript Studies.

Nuramirah Shahrin

Nuramirah Shahrin is a PhD candidate in the department of history at Ibn Haldun University (since September 2019). Her first degree in History and Civilization was from the Department of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences at International Islamic University Malaysia, where she graduated in 2014. She received her MA degree in History of Islam at Marmara University in 2019. Her areas of interest include Ottoman History in the later period (especially the 19th century); the history of Ottoman women, the relationship between the Ottoman Empire and Southeast Asia; Tanzimat Era; Malay Sultanate in the 19th century.

Salih Sefiloğlu

Salih received his Bachelor of Arts in Latin Language and Literature department from Istanbul University. He completed his MA in Religious Studies at Ibn Haldun University. He pursues his PhD education in History at Ibn Haldun University. His areas of interests are anti-Christian polemical literature, material culture of Ottoman Empire, Ottoman women.

Salih Erçel

Salih has graduated from Karabuk University, International Relations with an honorary degree.  He is doing his MA in Turkish Studies at İbn Haldun University. His main interests are the 20th-century Turkish history and intellectual transition through the 20th century. His MA thesis is about the first encyclopedia of the new Turkish Republic.

Sevde Bolat

Sevde Bolat received her BA in History and International Relations in Ankara TOBB University of Economics and Technology in 2018. She started her graduate education at Ibn Haldun University, MA in Turkish Studies Program. While studying, she also worked as a Teaching Fellow in the History of Modern Turkey and Humanity and Society courses. She is currently working on her master’s thesis titled “German Influence on Turkish Nationalism: The Sources of Social Darwinism in Committee of Union and Progress’ Nationalism.”  Her areas of scholarly interest and research include the History of the Late Ottoman Empire, Young Turks and the CUP, and Turkish Politics. Sezer Durak

Sezer Durak graduated from Beyoğlu Anatolian Imam Hatip High School in 2011. He graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Theology in 2016. During his undergraduate studies, he studied Islamic sciences, social sciences, and linguistic sciences at the Honor Program of the Sciences and Arts Center (İlimler ve Sanatlar Merkezi Onur Programı). He is currently preparing his thesis for MA degree in Islamic History from Marmara University, Institute of Social Sciences. Currently, he is a PhD student at the Department of History, Ibn Haldun University. He speaks English and Arabic.

Shameer Alavudeen Suharban

Shameer Alavudeen is a graduate of the Department of Journalism, Anadolu University, Eskişehir. He was a Türkiye Bursları scholarship holder during his bachelor’s degree. He is currently an international student representative in Turkey and aspires to become a journalist who specialises in Turkey and West Asia. He is pursuing his master’s degree in MA Turkish Studies program at IHU. His areas of interest are bilateral relations between India and Turkey, Economic history of Ottoman Empire, Spice trade, and Indian Ocean trade.

Turkana Allahverdiyeva

Turkana Allahverdiyeva is an international student from Azerbaijan. She has graduated from the University of Economics (UNEC), Faculty of International Economic Relations with an honors degree. She was awarded a state scholarship during her bachelor’s degree. Turkana completed her MA degree in the Diplomacy and International Relations (MADIA) program at ADA University in 2013. During 2013-2018, she worked as a lecturer and the Head of the Career Center at Baku Business University in Baku, Azerbaijan. Since 2018, Turkana has been enrolled as a Ph.D. student at the History Department at Ibn Haldun University where she was awarded a High Achievement Scholarship. Her thesis is entitled “Non-Elite Household Slavery in the Crimean Khanate in the early 18th Century.” Her advisor is Prof. Suraiya Faroqhi. She is also a Teaching Assistant for SPS 101 and SPS 102 courses. Her main interests are Ottoman slavery studies, manuscripts, Ottoman social history, and micro-studies in History.
